Fibre optic termination

At alker we specialise in terminating and manufacturing fibre optic assemblies, from one-off prototypes to multiple patchcords and pigtails. Our customers come to us from a wide variety of industries including medical, aviation, telecoms, R&D departments, audio-visual, military, renewable energy, aerospace, oil & gas, transport, robotics and universities.

We do not have a minimum order quantity on our assemblies.

Fibre optic termination refers to the process of fitting a fibre optic cable with a fibre optic connector. The typical procedure of termination includes 10 to 14 different processes. Each cable can contain anything from one single fibre (a simplex termination) or two fibres (a duplex termination) through to more complex breakout cables up to as much as 266 fibres.

A fibre array is where a number of fibres are terminated side by side, where each fibre is identified and matched up to the corresponding receiver/transmitter. We currently have a 64-way array in development, but more common configurations range from 4 to 16 fibre count.

Each stage of the process is 100% tested and all our products are manufactured at our facility here in Surrey, UK.

  • Standard fibre stock for our multimode termination work includes OM1 (62.5/125um), OM2 and OM3 (50/125um).
  • We can terminate on to the OM4 (50/125um) fibre, the most recently agreed standard, which has been proven to transmit 10 Gb/s up to 550m at 850nm.
  • For singlemode fibre terminations we stock the OS1 (9/125) fibre
  • If you require specialist optical fibre, for instance Borosilicate fibre or Polymer based fibre (POF), please contact us.
  • Our optical assemblies can be ruggedised (or packaged) to your specifications, from micro armoured, 900um polymer-based jackets, to reinforced, military spec, stainless steel flexible tubes, ranging from 1.5mm to 25mm in diameter. Click here for more details on our armoured range.

  • alker will ensure the highest quality for polish and low insertion loss on all termination work.

Device termination

We are set up to terminate onto your device. This could be for a new connector or simply a change for a new project. We also have a dedicated anti-static area at our manufacturing facility in Surrey, UK.
